ASCII art generator
Create a text banner or convert an image into characters. Copy with monospace formatting or export an image that keeps its layout.
In Google Docs or Word, use “Copy for documents” and paste with formatting. For plain-text paste, choose Courier New. In Discord, use the code block. PNG preserves the layout in any editor; avoid wrapping the lines.
Load an image to begin. Ctrl+V / Command+V pastes a copied image while this tool is focused.
Plain-text copying keeps the characters, not their colors. Use PNG, SVG or HTML to preserve appearance. ANSI export uses terminal true color; it is not a Discord message.
How this tool works
Generate ASCII text banners with 30 FIGlet fonts or convert images to ASCII. Copy for documents and Discord, or export TXT, PNG and SVG.
Create and share a banner
- Enter a short word or phrase. Switch between 30 fonts to choose a style.
- Choose the maximum width and alignment. Long phrases wrap onto multiple lines.
- Copy the result or download the TXT file. In Discord, paste the banner inside a code block to preserve spacing.
Standard font example
_ _ _ _ | | | | ___| | | ___ | |_| |/ _ \ | |/ _ \ | _ | __/ | | (_) | |_| |_|\___|_|_|\___/
Choose spacing and compare styles
Use full width to retain each glyph, fitted to remove gaps, or smushing to join strokes using the font’s rules. Vertical layout applies to multiline input. Compare fonts previews the first 40 characters in every style. Shared links include your text and settings in the URL fragment; avoid sharing private text.
Fonts and compatibility
30 FIGlet fonts, up to 200 input characters, and wrapping at your chosen width. Unsupported characters are reported before copying. Use a monospace font when pasting the banner.
What an ASCII art generator does
ASCII art is a drawing or lettering made of text characters: letters, numbers, slashes, underscores and spaces. In a monospace font every character takes the same width, so the lines stack up into a shape.
This ASCII art generator uses FIGlet fonts. Type a word and each letter turns into a block several lines tall, ready to copy and paste into a chat, a Discord server or your code.
Tips for a clean banner
Banners get wide fast, and on a narrow screen long lines wrap and break the drawing. You'll find the font and width settings under More options.
- Stick to one short word or your name. A full sentence wraps into a stack of banners that's hard to read.
- For a phone screen, pick a compact font like mini, small, Straight or Digital, and set Maximum width to 80.
- Save wide fonts such as Univers, 3D-ASCII or Isometric1 for a README or a terminal, where lines have more room.
Where it works and where it breaks
ASCII art needs a monospace font. In apps that show regular text, like an Instagram bio or a game nickname, letters change width and the shape falls apart. Paste it in a test message first to check the spacing.
- Discord: drop it in a server welcome channel or an announcement, always inside a code block.
- GitHub README: put the banner between two lines of three backticks (
```) so it shows as a code block. - Terminal and code: use it as a welcome message or as a comment at the top of a file, where the font is already monospace.
- WhatsApp: add three backticks (
```) before and after the text to switch to monospace. A phone chat bubble is narrow, so keep the word short and the font compact.
Post it as an image
For Instagram stories, WhatsApp statuses or TikTok, the easy route is an image. Tap PNG and upload the file like any photo.
The image uses the colors from Preview theme in More options. Pick Green terminal for green letters on a dark background, or Dark for light letters on near-black.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the letters lose alignment when pasted?
The drawing relies on fixed-width characters and spaces. Use a monospace font or code block. A narrow text box can wrap the lines again.
Does it support emoji and accented letters?
Each font has a character set. Available letters are used, with a plain Latin fallback for accents when needed. Characters that cannot be rendered appear in a warning; an incomplete result cannot be copied.
Does it convert images to ASCII art?
Yes. Select Image → ASCII to load a file and adjust columns, brightness, contrast, gamma and dithering. You can also open the dedicated image converter page.
How do I post a banner on Discord?
Select “Copy Discord block”. It wraps the banner in a code block, so Discord keeps the spacing. If the block goes over Discord's 2,000-character limit, you'll see a warning: pick a smaller font or a shorter word.
How do I change the font?
Open More options and choose one of the 30 FIGlet fonts, or search for one by name. “Compare fonts” previews the first 40 characters of your text in every font. Select a font there to use it.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Typedly draws the banner in your browser and doesn't send your text to a server. If you use “Copy link”, your text goes inside the link, so share it only with people you'd show that text to.
